Goodreads Synopsis: The Rain brothers fight for the survival of humanity in Last Chance, the thrilling sequel to New York Times bestselling author Gregg Hurwitz’s YA debut, The Rains. The New York Times bestselling author of Orphan X, Gregg Hurwitz, returns to Creek’s Cause to follow the Rains brothers as they fight an alien threat that has transformed everyone over the age of 18 into ferocious, zombie-like beings, in this thrilling sequel to The Rains. Battling an enemy not of this earth, Chance and Patrick become humanity’s only hope for salvation.
This is the second book (starting with The Rains) and even if you haven’t read the first, it has a good amount of recap and then lots more to keep the reader just as interested. Without giving away too much, in case you haven’t read the first novel, aliens are involved and everyone over a certain age become part of their zombie like army. Yup, I said it was a good read for this month and it doesn’t disappoint.
It has many of the youth running for their lives, but also standing their ground to save what’s left of humanity; those that will continue to keep our race alive, even if it means the end of their existence. If you think it wouldn’t be okay to pick up this novel first, just read the first chapter and into the second and you might think differently as it has a good amount of who’s who and what has taken over their world.
There are also several moments that will leave you full of emotion because sometimes not all characters make it in a place like the one that exists in Last Chance, but it might mean much needed salvation for those left standing, or does it? You’ll just have to read it to find out for yourself. Either way, if you like a good teen scifi novel this is one you might want to check out, maybe even leaving you wanting to pick up a few more books by Gregg Hurwitz. I know I definitely will be.
If his other novels are anything like this one, I know it’ll be full of those feels I mentioned above plus tons of heroic scenes, good twists, and unbeatable moments that special beings who continuously defy the odds can definitely get through. So yeah, I’m on my way to pick up a few more reads by him and hoping I like them just as much as I did The Rains and Last Chance. It for sure means more books on my TBR list, because I just needed to add more to it lol.
